“…Life is composed of layered moments and memories, shaping who we are. Each layer in my work offers a space for decision: what to conceal and what to reveal. Sometimes entire compositions are hidden beneath paper or paint, echoing the ways we mask or reveal facets of ourselves. I’m fascinated by these choices—what motivates us to reveal, to hide, or to play with these boundaries.”
This work is an exploration of letting go. Letting go of outcome and expectations. Letting go of the why and the what for. Through the release of these constraints, space is created for the work to reveal the joy and the power of trusting yourself.
It is in the process of making, that I find the freedom to let go of perceived control and trust my intuition. I discover power in not only embracing imperfection - but cultivating imperfection. It is a satisfying way to push back on my inherent inclination to people please and perform.
Life is made up of moments and memories that layer on top of each other to create who we are. Each layer in my work gives me an opportunity to decide what I will reveal and what I will conceal. Sometimes whole compositions will be hidden under paper or paint. I am interested in how we do this in our lives and what motivates us to make these choices. I often find joy in the opportunity for playfulness and mischief as I consider the idea of public and private personas.
Layers are experience, Shapes are moments. Colors are feelings.
Revealing my personal vulnerabilities to create connections is an important part of my creative process. For me, abstraction creates a safe place to share myself while allowing the viewer to find their own nostalgic, sensual, or liminal narratives.
